Practical Sword

Practical Sword is a club for people interested in learning how to fight with a sword and other weapons in a way that seeks to be as realistic as possible.

We do this by focusing on how people may have once fought in the past, trying to recreate lost fighting styles and techniques. We focus on both Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) with influences from Japanese and other asian martial arts, and Historical Medieval Battle (HMB).

We train in Melbourne's inner north in Preston and are a member of the Western Martial Academies of Australia.

We are currently offering two programs. One focused on Viking Age combat  (HEMA / WMA) and a second program focusd on full contact Historical Medieval Battle (HMB) in conjunction wth the "Ruthless Rabbits" HMB club.

If you are new you are weclome to come and watch or try a free lesson.  You can find out more about training and membership by clicking on these links.

We also have begun crafting workshops, where student lean to build equipment used in the HEMA or HMB training.

Please contact us if you have any questions.
